In view of emerging trends, Spotify is the latest tech body to take innovation to the next level, as they would now be including a video podcast feature. This is in line with the company’s aim to provide more visual content for users, starting with video podcasts.

The verge reports, that the streaming platform has begun testing of the video podcast feature on desktop and mobile app. They are doing this through select YouTubers, Zane Hijazi and Heath Hussar of Zane and Heath: Unfiltered.

This initial test run contains features that allow creators to upload pre-recorded footage. An estimated number of Spotify podcast listeners will be privileged to use the test run version. To find out which episode is playing, they would have to press play and watch the footage at the bottom of the screen.

Even with locked screens, the video podcast episode will keep running while ads on free Spotify accounts will appear as a non-moving shot.

A Spokesperson for the streaming platform put out a statement on the verge.

“At Spotify, we routinely conduct a number of tests in an effort to improve our user experience. Some of those tests end up paving the way for our broader user experience and others serve only as an important learning. We don’t have any further news to share at this time.”
