Roger Federer has defeated Serena Williams in the Hopman Cup, as part of a once-off “exhibition” style game.

Federer and Belinda Bencic beat Williams and Frances Tiafoe 4-2 4-3 (5-3) in a mixed-doubles contest to secure a 2-1 win in the tie.

Federer and Williams, holders of a combined 43 singles Grand Slam crowns, won their singles matches in the tournament, which set up the doubles clash, and both players left the court seemingly very pleased with the experience.

Federer spoke about how much he enjoyed the experience, saying: “It was great fun. What a pleasure. What an honour.
