Nadal swept to an historic 12th Roland Garros title and 18th Grand Slam crown on Sunday with a 6-3, 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 victory over Dominic Thiem to become the first player in history to win the Roland Garros record 12 times.
The Spaniard won for the third straight year at Roland Garros. The 33-year-old is the first player to win 12 singles titles at the same Grand Slam and has now won 18 majors overall.
“I can’t explain what I’ve achieved and how I feel. It’s a dream,” said Nadal.
“To play for the first time in 2005 – I never thought in 2019 I’d still be here. It’s an incredible moment and very special for me.”
