2019, was a wild year for music in Nigeria, this year saw a shift from the norm and the usual suspects actually saw ‘challengers’ for the throne. We really hope 2020 gives us more ‘unknown’ rookies that actually impact the music industry. These guys have built a fan base, cult-like following and an impression on us this year so we can only predict they will achieve big things in the coming years. Here are our artistes to watch out for in 2020.

‘Finally found where I fit in…Marlian Records’. And just like that another ‘street’ artiste is in the right kitchen cooking. If you don’t know who Zinoleesky is, better get familiar. He’s been garnering his fans on Instagram with his melodious and creative freestyle. With the whole Ikorodu behind him and Naira Marley’s label guidance. Get ready to be screaming ‘firiyoyo’

Some people say ‘So Fine’ was bigger than him, but to me, that’s a testament to great things to come because it proves Crayon can make a hit. His ‘Cray Cray’ Ep was one of the underrated projects that came out last year. Now with Rema out of the way as a bonafide rookie, this Mavin’s 2020 is about to be reactivated.

Alpha P

Universal Music Group Nigeria’s Alpha P has been getting a lot of comparisons to Rema, and rightly so. Alpha is one of those unique artists that can cash out in any genre. If his single ‘Paloma’ is anything to go by, this king of wolves is about to bring the whole pack.

Bella Shmurda

Bella is getting all the big cosigns from your favourite artists, His sleeper hit ‘Vision 2020’ is the definition of a ‘sweet’ jam. Bella Shmurda is currently signed to Olamide’s YBNL and if going by Olamide’s signings, we know Bella Shmurda is set to blow

Feature after feature, Oxlade is set to take over. With a falsetto reminiscent of Wande Cole and a cosign from the likes of Davido and A&R expert Bizzle, Oxlade is making his way to your playlists in the nearest future. His chorus on Blaqbonez’s Mamiwota is a song lover’s delight and if you didn’t hear of the name Oxlade in 2019, trust me on this one, come 2020 you would.

Jinmi Abduls

With Abena and ‘Greed’, Jinmi Abduls wants to sing his way into your hearts. Fusing R&B and pop with a voice to die for, Jinmi is the golden boy or R&B and the to the throne.  If you don’t want him to steal your babe, don’t let her hear him sing.

You definitely don’t want to try her, Tems has gradually been building a fan base with her single ‘Looku Looku’ and the stars aligned when she dropped her song ‘Try Me’ this year. Tems voice on the mic is larger than life and it shows. If there was a breakout female this year, it is definitely Tems. With almost a million views with her single ‘Try Me’, you really don’t want to try her do you?
