Hubert De Givenchy Passes Away At Age 91

The Founder of eponymous house Hubert De Givenchy, has died at the age of 91. The news was confirmed by Philippe Venet, Givenchy’s partner and a former couture designer, who spoke to the AFP agency saying the following: “It is with huge sadness that we inform you that Hubert Taffin de Givenchy has died.”

Hubert founded Givenchy in 1952 when he was just 24 years old, presenting his debut collection in February of that year.  His most famous client was Audrey Hepburn, creating several of her iconic movie looks, such as her gown in Sabrina as well as the black dress she wore in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. Hepburn said of the designer, “Givenchy’s lovely simple clothes [gave me] the feeling of being whoever I played.” Clare Waight Keller is the current artistic director of Givenchy.
