Sean “Diddy” Combs, the rapper, has been identified as the buyer of a painting by Kerry James Marshall that sold at auction for a record-breaking $21.1m (£15.6m)

It was thought to be the most ever paid for a work by a living African-American artist when it went under the hammer on Wednesday night.

Specifically, Diddy has bought the Chicago artist’s renowned “Past Times” piece, which was auctioned off earlier this week. The $21 million USD cost is reportedly “near the maximum paid” for the work of a “living artist.”

On Wednesday night at Sotheby’s auction house the painting was sold to a then-unidentified bidder for that whopping aforementioned sum. It was an all-time high for the painter, age 62, and reportedly the highest sum ever paid for artwork created by a living African American artist. It’s pretty damn cool it went to Diddy.
