According to TMZ, rapper Cardi B is being sued by her ex-manager, Klenord Raphael (a.k.a. Shaft), who claims he played a significant role in developing Cardi’s career. However, once she rose to fame, he says he was kicked to the curb.
Shaft also stated he was responsible for her landing a role on VH1’s Love & Hip Hop.
However, the biggest claim of all is that his team wrote and produced Cardi’s breakout single, “Bodak Yellow”, which led to her ascend to stardom.
Shaft’s rep spoke with TMZ,saying, “Since discovering Cardi B in 2015, Shaft has played an integral role in developing her music career and public image. While he is proud of their successful collaborations as she evolved from Instagram influencer to music megastar, Shaft is disappointed by her actions to freeze him out of her career, which are detailed in the complaint.”
In a claim filed on 26 April and seen by Variety, the dispute centres on Cardi’s departure from Raphael’s company, World Star Marketing Group, and her new deal with Solid Foundation. The latter is the management arm of Quality Control, the label to whom the rapper’s fiance, Offset, is signed with his group Migos.
He also claims Offset “is responsible for steering Cardi B to Quality Control”, and that the rapper sent him threatening text messages. He also accuses Cardi B of defamation after she allegedly told Offset and others: “Shaft is robbing me.”
