According to legal documents filed by Lil Wayne against Cash Money Records CEO, Bryan ‘Birdman’ Williams, Young Money acts including Drake, Nicki Minaj and Tyga were ripped off.
According to TMZ, Wayne has obtained letters from Drake and Tyga’s respective teams making the claims that the duo were not paid as promised.
Nicki’s producers claim they were not sufficiently paid and that the responsibility falls to the record label, the parent company of Lil Wayne’s Young Money label.
Wayne claims Young Money was supposed to receive a $100 million advance from Universal Music Group, which Cash Money records signed a publishing and distribution deal with in 1998.
The legal docs claim the money went directly to CMR and Young Money claims it didn’t receive the check.
CMR fired back at Wayne saying they gave the rapper $20 million advance in 2012 plus an additional $12 million for his solo album.
The label also claims they gave Wayne $70 million for Young Money roster’s advances, royalties, marketing and recording costs.
