Apple is reportedly exploring how it can make its iPhone more unique, as a patent has been filed that looks into developing a convex display.

As reported by Apple Insider, the patent was granted on August 4 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, and is titled “Electronic devices with convex displays.” The patent suggests that the screen would be curved outwards and would wrap over the sides, which not only provides more display space, but also gives the illusion of a slimmer device.

In addition to this, a convex display would offer more space inside the phone which would give Apple the chance to add more technology to its iPhone. Apple Insider assumes that the curved screen could be made from either flexible OLED or LCD panels, with glass and metal being used to support and reinforce the more fragile device.
